Chocolate & Eyelashes

chocolate eyelashesI love both… as most women do.  Everyone has different taste and likes different types of both.  Then enter the love/hate relationships:  I love/hate fiber mascara & I love/hate sugar.

Maybe I am NOT the best judge of fiber mascara because I create natural, perfect lashes daily with lash extensions.  I work as a makeup artist who specialized in natural beauty.. but then again I am originally from NJ where more is always better!

I love the natural application of fiber mascara.  It works amazingly!  But I believe it needs to be washed off daily (call me crazy) and should never be applied to lash extensions (unless you want to break off lashes).

I love chocolate, I would love to eat it every day.  Heck, I wish I could walk around with a drip of it in my arm all day (you know the world would be a better place.. especially once a month 😉 ).  But I don’t like the weight it puts on my body eating it every day.  Or the lows it gives me after a binge of sweets (and the belly ache).

So here’s the issue.. I am horrified when I see spidery pictures of any type of lashes and any chocolate sundae picture make me crave one for days (especially from Serendipty3 in Vegas – my fav Instagram follow).  I believe we are all entitled to our options and thank goodness everyone is different or we would be in a crazy episode of the Twilight Zone where everyone looks the same (Season 5 Episode 17)!

This is the “How to” for spidery lash application:

Please share your thoughts with me on which look you prefer and why.  And which type of chocolate is your favorite? I can agree to disagree. 🙂

DIY: SuperBowl SPAday

superbowl SPAdayIt’s SuperBowl Sunday weekend. Is there anyone else not into watching it or is it just me?  Well here’s what I will be doing.. SuperBowl SPAday!  Self pampering beauty.. Way better than football (at least to me) but maybe I’ll peek at the half-time show.

Here’s how to enjoy yourself while everyone else is in front of the television. Or after the party if you want to catch the game. (Can also be used any day you choose, whenever you’re in the mood or need it!)

What you will need:
Music of choice
Book of choice
Coconut oil
Packet of sugar
Honey
Green tea bags (2)
Candles
Socks/slippers
Favorite beverage

Start by lighting some candles (watching a flame lowers blood pressure), choosing some music (can’t go wrong with Classical or George Winston), pull out your favorite read (I’m addicted to Outlander right now) and pour yourself a beverage.

Pull your hair back with a tie or headband and slip into comfy clothes and slippers.  Take out the packet of sugar and empty it into your hand.  Mix a drop of your favorite cleanser into the sugar and apply to your face in circular movements.  Use warm water to wash your face with the mixture and give extra attention to any dry spots (nose, chin, lips).  The sugar will exfoliate and dissolve within the water as you wash (brilliant).  Rinse your face with cold water to close your pores and pat dry.

Apply a thin layer of coconut oil all over your face and follow by spreading a teaspoon of honey to your entire face & neck.  Pat the honey with your fingertips all over your face for about 1-2 minutes.  This stimulates the cells and encourages product penetration.  Apply coconut oil to your cuticles and grab a book, sitting with your feet up in front of the candles.  If you want to relax instead of read, apply one wet green tea bag to each eye and close.

Allow yourself to sit for 15-20 minutes with the honey on your face.  Then massage remaining oil into cuticles, remove tea bags, rinse face and pat dry.  Follow with one more application of coconut oil to your face & neck, apply your favorite eye cream and top with your moisturizer.

The honey and coconut oil will hydrate your skin and leave it feeling baby bottom smooth (and won’t clog or breakout skin).  The green tea bags will help hydrate, eliminate puffiness and firm.

If you want to sneak a peek at the television, now would be the time or just put your feet back up and enjoy YOU.

Let me know if you’ll be enjoying the game or pampering yourself.

Is that a grey hair in my eyebrow!?

It was an ordinary day. I grabbed my mirror and headed to the window with my tweezers.. Looking for those pesky hairs out of place & messing up my brow line.
Wait, what is that? Do I see a.. Is that a..? Hmmm a light blonde hair in my brow? Strange I’m a brunette. I turn away from the sunshine and flip the mirror to the magnifier. OMG.. @!$?! What! How?..

grey eyebrowOh no.. Do I pluck it? Cut it? Color it? Or ignore it (yeah right). Can anyone else relate? Let’s look at options:

1. Pluck it.
I prefer the word “tweeze”. They say when you pull 1 grey hair 2 grow in its place. But when you’re over 40, they may not grow back.
Over-plucking can lead to holes & thinned brows. So my advice is tweeze sparingly.

2. Trim it.
If you have lighter hair trimming the grey hair may be a good option. Trim the tip so it blends into the brow instead of laying on top. Darker hair needs to trim lower.
Be careful to isolate only the grey hair, otherwise you’ll cut yourself a bald spot. (Post coming up on “Trimming brows”)

3. Dye it.
I believe this is the best option. While having your hair colored (or DIY) place some color across your brows (not skin). Leave it on for 10-15 min depending on darkness of hair color. Wipe off with cold water pad to seal in color. Or make an appointment with your favorite Esthetican and ask for a brow tint. They will be able to customize a color to match your hair.
Tinting lasts up to a month and slowly fades away.

4. Color it.
Wetting eyeshadow can work for darker hair tones. The best option is finding a matching brow or hair mascara. Simply wipe on and let it dry.
Color lasts until it’s washed off. It also helps keep the brow hairs in place.

Otherwise you leave it alone, smile at yourself in the mirror and continue on.

A New Year, let’s review..

Happy NEW YEAR!  I would like to introduce myself to you.  Some of you are new and I would like to say HI!:

I’m Michelle Bouse.  I am a reformed Jersey Girl (born & raised), who followed her heart & moved to California in 1998 – but I’m not your typical California girl.  I am a retired professional dancer over 40 who’s second career is Beauty.  I love giving back, inspiring others, chocolate is my weakness and I’m addicted to tea & newly found love – Yoga.

I have the gift of seeing beauty in everything, everyone & making people feel good.. and feel it’s my job to share.

2015 is a BIG Beauty year for me.. I am celebrating 15 years (what?! how is that possible) as a industry make-up artist and 10 years (is this even possible) as an esthetician.  I can’t believe it.  These days people call me a beauty expert.

Last year I was on The Doctors tv show twice, my second Lifestyle Lift commercial aired as an expert with Debby Boone and I finished my final certification for Volume Lash extensions.  One of my clients won her second emmy, a bunch of clients got married, had babies and appeared all over TV!  I also expanded the boutique with certifying Linda as a OUIDAD Curly hair expert, carrying the product line exclusively and introducing the boutique closet, carrying clothing.  (Not to mention my Boys and Girls Club team won a trip to Nationals for their 4th year in a row).

One of the BEST beauty introductions was THE BEAUTY BOOKENDS with my beauty best friend & fellow celebrity make-up artist, Dia Dibble.  We started shooting short YouTube videos for anyone over 40 looking for beauty tips.  We have had a wonderful response and requested live appearances.. so we will continue the videos every month in 2015.

But why should you stop by here and say Hi? (hmmmm)  Well, I like meeting new people, like to talk and have a bunch of beautiful things to share.  I hope to see you here again and would love to hear about your beauty successes, questions and inspirations.

Here’s to a New Year filled with beautiful possibilities..

Michelle

Hello Gorgeous

Yes I’m talking to YOU!  You are you know!

I have to go with #Gorgeous for my “G”.  Not only because of my business, but because I have been so inspired by honest, pure kindness & Random Acts of Beauty – the adjective to describe it all has to be GORGEOUS!

I believe beauty when inspired, selfless & honest = Gorgeousness!

I was so humbled and grateful to be a judge in the Miss Teen Los Angeles pageant last month.. These young girls were looking for confidence, sparkle, reassurance, friends & beauty.  Every single one of them found it – in my eyes the courage to try something out of your comfort zone, show up with grace & a sense of adventure is always a WIN = GORGEOUS

A few weeks later, a wonderful friend invited me to a new social media app I have fallen in love with #HAPPIER.

It’s like Twitter & Instagram wrapped in Sunshine..  of course my new addiction.  Inspiring & spreading Gorgeousness – OMG!  Does it get any better?

Why spread anything else but sunshine?

(find me & join me – that would make me “HAPPIER”)

Happier App Here

Recently someone said, “You glitter bomb people all day with your goodness & light, no wonder they love seeing you.”  BEST compliment EVER.. (giggling)  Then another friend agreed and added, “It’s more like Sparkle Bombs with you.”

I think that is my new “catch phrase” for doing good, inspiring, spreading joy & sharing love.. #sparklebomb -ing.  My personal definition of #Gorgeous.

Then I stumbled upon #operationbeautiful.  For me this is my daily story.. I am joining the movement to post-ing it forward with anonymous notes & random acts of beauty.  You can see the story here.. @beautifulnotes.

This is my first note left on a Keurig beverage maker.  Gotta make someone smile for sure!

What is your definition of #Gorgeous?

As you can see I have ALOT of favorite “G” words (Grace & Gratitude probably fighting for the top position).

Sometimes it is so hard to find ONE word to describe something.. so just start one letter at a time & #TellYourStory2014.

We be listening.. be GORGEOUS today!

F is for Friendship

The key to having a good friend, is learning how to BE a good friend.

Friends are “kisses blown to us by angels.”

These 8 people have taught me the true meaning of Friendship..

Real friends show up.

They always make time.  They listen.  They inspire.  They encourage.  They laugh.  They critique.  They share.  They love.  They forgive.  They jump w/you.

My biggest lesson recently is that Friendship is a 2-way street & takes work.  Both people have to be willing or it doesn’t work.

And when a Friendship isn’t working, sometimes it is time to let it go.

What work have you done on a special Friendship recently?
