Why you must try this Safe Summer Sun (tanner)

A friend recently handed me this foaming self tanner to try and I just love it!

Besides the fact it is a safe summer tanning alternative, this is why you need to try it.

Foaming Sunless Tan

I am VERY picky when it comes to self tanners.. most stink and streak.  I love the foam idea.  It’s clear but I find it blends very easily. (around $20)

(I am not associated with the company – I just love the product)

Don’t forget to EXFOLIATE before the first application!  And ALWAYS apply Sunscreen on top of sun-less tanned skin.

MY +s:

1.  It actually smells amazing going on – it smells good!?! Really

2.  It blends so easy

3.  The color is a beautiful natural brown tone – no orange

4.  The staying power is a bit unbelievable I got 2 applications that lasts almost a week

5.  Additional applications blend beautifully on top of one another (I applied 2 days in a row)

6.  Knee area was blended beautifully (I did go light on application)

7.  Not sticky after application – foam dries like a dream

My -s:

1.  It is colorless

2.  Next day “sunless” smell arrives

3.  If you lean “non” applied body parts to “applied” body part within first 10 mins, it transfers (Duh Michelle)

4.  Foot area is still tricky to blend off

For me a wonderful safe fun alternative to tanning.

So glad I tried it!  I’ll be using it all season long.

Let me know what you think.. 5 stars from me!

Super-charge ur moisturizer w/ this ingredient

Hellllllllo Hyaluronic Acid.

I tell everyone this is like ‘little fingers’ that come off your skin, grab the moisturizer and pull it deep into the lower dermal layers.  It has also been referred to as “miracle/fountain of youth” ingredient.. but let’s not get crazy.

Here’s the scientific explanation and some drugstore picks.  I just recommend finding a serum with hyaluronic acid in it (I love Epicuren’s Moist Surge) and apply it to a clean face before moisturizer or mix with your moisturizer for application.  Any dry skin will see improvement and I love hydrating for anti-aging!

wet face moisturizer tipThe other great hydration secret is to apply moisturizer to WET skin.  We all know the best time to moisturize our body is just after a shower.  Skin is still damp and the lotion locks in the moisture.

So mist your face,

grab ur hyaluronic acid serum,

apply to your face (and neck).

Then follow with your favorite moisturizer.  This will super-charge your product & your skin will glow with gratitude!

Crazy 4 Curls

I love lashes.  Linda loves hair.. together we ROCK CURLS!

EYELASHES

If you are not into lash extensions creating gorgeous natural curls.. Or maybe you have great natural lashes.. You NEED a Lash Curler.  This is the ONLY one you will ever need!

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

PicsArt

I have used this for years!  I have one at home and one in my makeup kit and they have each lasted me almost 15 years! (great beauty investment)

1.  Start at the base of your eye with curler.. fit into eye pocket and gently pulse curler a few times.

2.  Continue to open and close curler and walk up lash – gently squeezing all the way up to increase curl.

3.  Straighter lashes can get a great lift by focusing curl just at the base of the lash.

4.  Change the silicone pad when curler starts cutting into pad and loosing bounce.

5.  Never use curler on lashes with mascara applied.  You can break your lashes.

HAIR

imagesCurly hair needs extra TLC to tame the curls.  Everyone’s curls are different.. that is why sometimes it is frustrating to try and figure out what’s best for your hair.  This is where we come in.. meet OUIDAD.

Paint Your Nails

WINTER BLUES got you down?

Here are some ideas to lift your spirits & make you feel Pretty! (Because YOU ARE!)

1.  Paint your nails:  A little color can make all the difference.  Purple is the “IT” color for SPRING 2014 so start testing out some of your favorites.  Adding a little SPARKLE on top always makes me smile.

Product Pick:  Love Zoya AWAKEN Spring 2014 line, especially Monet topper.

2.  Take a bath:  Warm water and some wonderful smells can take you to a whole new world. Play your favorite music, close your eyes and breathe deeply.

Product Pick:  Pandora’s peaceful stations never fail to lull my clients into beauty rest.

3.  Grab an aromatherapy based lotion:  Applying aromatherapy to your body will lift your spirits and help soften and smooth your skin from chapped, dry skin.

Product Pick:  I am addicted to Shea Butter based lotions with aromatic scents (KleanSpa does custom “scenting”).  I can’t get enough!

4.  Buy a new lip gloss:  This works for me every time.  Apply & Smile.

Product Pick: Urban Decay has a beautiful new line of lipsticks for spring 2014.

5.  Add bangs:  Whether they are feathered, side swiped or curly – change can be good.  It always grows back.

6.  Give yourself a mini-facial:  Clean your face and apply a mask, then take a shower.  (Steam helps the ingredients penetrate) after you’re done wipe it off & apply coconut oil.  Your skin will LOVE it!

Product Pick:  This hydrating mask from Boot’s look delish (love the ingredients).  You can also just apply Honey.  Works beautifully.

I would LOVE to hear what YOU do to “Beat the Blues..”

B is for Balance

I have struggled with BALANCE my entire life.

As a student studying dance.  As a choreographer/professional dancer.  As a business owner.  As a beauty artist.  Is there such a place as “perfect balance“?

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance & order and rhythm & harmony.”  (Thomas Merton)

I believe unbalance is a common occurrence.  I believe it does not happen overnight.  I believe we all lead lopsided lives.  I believe it is a life long journey to figure it out.  What works for one person may not work for any other.  What do we do?

Do we ever reach the place where the see-saw is STUCK in perfect balance (that would be no fun)? Or in the yoga pose “tree” where we can’t come out of the pose due to our perfect balance (I’ve only done that maybe twice).

In Beauty, did you know a more balanced face appears more beautiful to the eye.  All beauty treatments and m/u applications are to help balance the skin/face.  In health and body, the more in balance our minds and bodies are, the better we feel.

I believe it is the journey of all the lessons that the imbalances give us that makes life more beautiful.

I believe it’s all about flexibility & patience.  Bend with changes and try to stay positive and upright..  all we have to do is strive for balance.   I believe it’s the process that creates the beautiful dance.

This year, BALANCE will mean not adding too much to my plate and saying
“NO, but thank you” more often!  Here’s to trying & a few cushioned falls!

What is your “B” word?  (this is what inspired mine.. Jan 2014)

Addicted to Hydrosols

Confession: Can’t finish my nighttime routine without spritzing myself with a Hydrosol before bed. (and during a facial one spritz for them, one for meeeeeee!)

20130617-154530.jpg

Hydrosols are the water product from the distillation of flowers for extracting essential oils.

Hydrosols contain the same properties of the oil and are gentler for kids, elderly & animal use. You can spray Hydrosols directly on the skin, unlike essential oils that need to be mixed with a carrier oil before applying to the skin.

They are wonderful for skincare and smell delish!  I clean my face then spray a cotton pad with the Hydrosol and wipe all over my skin as a toner. My skin is so soft and clean. Then I mist my face & chest before I go to sleep.

Uses for Hydrosols:

My personal favorites are Neroli & Jasmine. They always lift my spirits. (My clients love rose & lavender)

–  Spritz on your face for a pick-up or hydration any time of day

–  Spritz on curly hair for a little bounce revive

–  2nd cleanse on face as toner & moisturizer

–  Add to a bath for a relaxing, soothing effect (lavender is perfect, just a few sprays)

–  Spray on itchy doggie for shedding relief, calming relief and antiseptic treatment (lavender)

–  Mist on your pillow before sleep for peaceful rest

Let me know what YOU use your Hydrosols for.

Why I LOVE My Clarisonic

I may be late in getting around to trying all the new trends.. But the importance is finding the ones worth the wait.

(I just watched all 5 TWILIGHT movies in 2days.. It only took me 5 yrs. to figure out the buzz on that one – WOW! I know, don’t judge me.. I’m busy). 🙂

Confession: I absolutely LOVE my Clarisonic.

Clarisonic Rocks
Clarisonic Rocks

Why? It’s sonic technology and its good for your skin. Ok but why? The sonic brush vibrates at such a high rate it has the ability to brush off dead, flaky skin.. and push out impurities from the pores, which results in super clean skin.

Have you ever washed your face with a cleanser, then taken a cotton ball/pad with toner on it and wiped it across your face? You can see the residue that remains on the cotton ball, AFTER you just washed your face – gross!

My face has never felt this clean after an at home wash.. Even after a hydrosol.  After each use my skin looks brighter, smoother and I swear it looks tighter. (Don’t burst my bubble, I sticking with tighter).  The movement of the brush is exercising the skin and helping to stimulate collagen & elastin along increaseing the blood circulation.  I even like the Clarisonic gel & exfoliator products (and I’m an die-hard EPICUREN girl!)

I love my PRO model for all the timer settings (it tells you when to move to another section of your face with a beep! BRILLIANT) and the body brush head & sensitive brushes it comes with.  Don’t forget to do your chin, jawline and neck as well, these are the most forgotten areas of the face for cleansing & treating (and show our age the most).  I use a second timed pass for my lips, chin, neck & jawline.  Did I mention I LOVE the timer?!

The only thing I will be changing is the brush head.. Maybe sensitive is the way to go – but I’m still deciding. I love options.

It’s gonna make a great Mother’s Day gift! (Shhhh, don’t tell my mom.) 😉

Makeup Brushes 101

20130228-164323.jpgConfession: So many brushes, so little time.  There are no RULES.. but this may help you start.

Everyone always asks me about brushes. Which one should I get for _______?

The answer is any one you want to use. There are no rules in makeup application. I use my fingers to apply shadow on myself ALOT (not on client though.. LOL). It is an art – Your Art. It is like painting. For different effects there are some basics, but it is all up to you! You can wipe your brow and know pressure is off. I will give you some basic guidelines and my favorites, but really the choice is up to you! 🙂

There are basically 3 types of brushes:

Round (which is circular)

Flat (which is straight across)
Filbert (which is curved) Think of this as your finger.

When choosing a brush, first think of the surface you are applying makeup to. Cheeks, eyes, face – this would work well for a ROUND brush. Liner, brows, contouring – you may want more of a FLAT line to blend. Under-eyes, lips, concealing creases – these areas are curved so a FILBERT would be just like using your FINGER. Make sense? Here is a visual to help.. this is a good guide to help you choose the basics of brushes.

brush-how-toNatural (Sable) hair vs. Synthetic:

Natural hair holds the product best (sable is the most popular and the more expensive, the nicer the hair). Synthetic brushes will not absorb the product and creams slide off the brush better. I use synthetic for special effects, glitter, cream liners, lipstick, etc. Powders tend to slide too much on the synthetic bristols and will discolor lighter hair fibers. If the brush is white or gold, ya synthetic.

These are my 5 FAV BRUSHES/MUSTS (besides my finger) for doing my own makeup:

1. Short ANGLE brush for eyeliner
2. Fluffy FILBERT for highlight under my eyes
3. Tapered/pointed ROUND for blending in my crease in my eye (my MOST fav of ALL I have 6 for personal/professional use)
4. Puffy big ROUND brush for powder & mineral foundation application
5. Full FLAT brush for blush application

As you can see I am creative with my choice of brushes for my personal application. I do use some different choices when working on others. Please share with me what you find works great for you.. I love trying new brushes!

ALWAYS remember to wash your brushes with shampoo or use brush cleaner and allow them to dry THOROUGHLY before putting them away. You should do this at least once a month.

Thanks for stopping by and happy brushing.
